About Us

Dam Building
A quick overview

Southern Highland Contracting is a family owned local business in Bombala, NSW with extensive experience in the forestry industry.

Directors Warrick & Sonya with their Son’s Damien & the late Luke started SHC on the shovel planting pine seedlings in 2009 with the vision of bigger things.

Having boys that loved big toys it was enviable that we would soon be purchasing a couple. So when given the opportunity to branch out into site preparation in 2011 we jumped at it, with the purchase of our first Cat D8T. We continue to enjoy the site preparation now with three D8T’s, a D7R and a 210LC-9 excavator.

In 2019 we purchased the first of our Cat 548FM excavators, the first having a large felling head for the purpose of hazardous tree removal for several interested parties with great success.  Following the wildfires in 2020 we had the chance to do some salvage harvesting for FCNSW, this resulted in the purchase of our second 548 although this time with a Waratah 623C harvesting head. A Komatsu forwarder and a Valmet Forwarder were also purchased for this operation. .

As we continue to grow, we now have a roading crew that maintains forestry roads utilizing our a grader, smaller dozers, a roller and tip truck.

Safety Leadership

SHC has a positive leadership and management style that allows us to engage with our team and encourage all level of contributions to our safety processes, we believe this leads to growth and ongoing improvement in our organisation’s work health and safety performance.

We offer considerable knowledge and experience within the forestry Industry. Warrick having been the first formally trained forwarder operator in the district many years ago. Both Warrick and Damien have been involved in almost every aspect of forestry operation from seedling planting, harvesting and site preparation. Having participated in each aspect of the process it has allowed SHC to become very knowledgeable in how “a good job here makes an easier job there”, a clean harvest site makes for easier site prep, better site prep makes for easier planting and around it goes.

At SHC we believe in the future of the forest industries in the Bombala regions, so we are extremely proud of our team, a comfortable mix of well experienced operators to nurture and guide our younger team members, a well-balanced team that offers both youth and agility and the wisdom of years of experience.

Training and accreditation are paramount at SHC with all team members being fully accredited in their position descriptions. Management assesses the training needs against competencies held on a regular basis.

Work, health, safety, and environment has always been a focus point for the management at SHC. As we grow and develop our business, we acknowledge the ever-changing requirements of WHSE within the forest industry. We believe in the moto  “keep compliance high and incident low”.
